Mumbai Police has imposed a month-long ban on unlicensed firecracker sales, storage, display and transportation across Brihanmumbai from November 3 to December 2. Find out what the order says and who issued it.

Mumbai Police has imposed a month-long ban on several activities involving firecrackers without valid licences across the Brihanmumbai area, tightening security measures ahead of Diwali and other upcoming festivals. The order, which came into effect on November 3, will remain in force until December 2, with the aim of maintaining public safety and preventing disturbances, fire hazards and security risks during the festive season.

The directive prohibits the sale, possession, display and transportation of firecrackers for sale in public places without a valid licence issued by a police officer or the state government. The restrictions have been introduced by the Mumbai Police Commissionerate to prevent public inconvenience and potential threats to public order.

The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and Executive Magistrate Akbar Pathan. An official said the directions were issued under the Maharashtra Police Act to prevent any inconvenience or danger to the public.

According to the order, "No person within the limits of Brihanmumbai shall sell, possess, display or carry firecrackers in any public place for the purpose of sale without a licence issued by a police officer or the state government."
